Mirpur University of Science and Technology MUST, Mirpur AJ&K hosted a multi-topic seminar titled “One Nation, One Destination: Drug-Free Pakistan”, “Child Labour ” & “Revocation of Article 370 by India” on Monday, August 5, 2024. The event was held at the Mechanical Hall of the City Campus with support of Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and the Positive Pakistan MUST Chapter.
Mr. Nafees Kayani, Lecturer Department of Law spoke extensively on the revocation of Article 370 by India, discussed its impact and implications for the People of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted that following the constitutional changes Indian Occupied Kashmir experienced a surge in unlawful killings by Indian forces. Reports from the Jammu & Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society reveal that since August 2019, Indian forces have conducted thousands of search and cordon operations, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of individuals. Although options appear limited it is crucial to pursue these issues at all international forums including the UN Security Council, regardless of the immediate outcomes, he added. He further said such efforts even if couldn’t bring desired results, are essential for maintaining the morale of the Kashmiri people.
Dr. Amir Aziz, Medical Superintenden, Divisional Headquarters Teaching Hospital Mirpur AJ&K and Mr. Muhammad Zia Ul Haq, Assistant Director, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Pakistan addressed the issue of drug awareness. They discussed the effects and causes of drug addiction, strategies for preventing these harmful habits and ways to protect our friends, family members & communities from drug addiction. ANF officials provided a detailed presentation on the rising demand for drugs, nature of addiction & the ongoing operations of the ANF to combat this issue.
Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Director, MUST Business School shared his views on topics of seminar including drug addiction, child labor & the revocation of Article 370 by India. He stressed the urgent need to recognise our responsibilities, raise our voices & take concrete actions to draw global attention towards oppressed People of Indian Occupied Kashmir.
At the conclusion of the session Prof. Dr. Rashida Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences expressed gratitude on behalf of Brigadier Younus Javed, Vice Chancellor, Mirpur University of Science and Technology MUST, Mirpur AJ&K, thanked Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Dr. Amir Aziz, Medical Superintendent, Divisional Headquarters Teaching Hospital Mirpur AJ&K, Positive Pakistan MUST Chapter & Directorate of Students Affairs for organising a thought-provoking seminar. Shields were distributed to the guests and organisers of the event.
